YOUNG AND TALENTED FROM THE ISLAND.

We've seen so many talented people when we browse through flickr, deviantart and etc. Never knew we would come across someone from our beloved heart of Orient. One day, while browsing through some pictures, one of our crews came across some beautiful pieces of art. There, we got to know a very talented 17-years-old Slovenian artist and photographer, Isabella Strohmeier-Presicek who is currently studying in Uplands International School of Penang. Izy loves everything art related and she is preparing to go university next year to Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland. &Fortunately, we've got the golden chance to have a small interview withIzy before she leaves Penang. Here's our interview with Izy..

What inspires you when comes to art?
Almost anything can inspire me. From people to other artist’s work to music. I am really liking young contemporary artists such as Sylvia Ji and Audrey Kawasaki. I also really like Art Nouveau artists: Klimt, Alphonse Mucha.

How would you describe yourself and your characteristic as a young artist?
I am a very positive person . I love life and see the beauty in everyday things. I think people often get to caught up in their lives fighting for that promotion or the new car to realize how beautiful the world is. My paintings often revolve around life and death. People sometimes see it as a dark and negative thing but what i'm really trying to say is : "yes, life is short and is going to end, but that is what gives it value".

What do you think about the art level in Penang?
I have been in Penang for five years now. I don't hear a lot about art in Penang, especially young artists. I really wish there was a more developed art scene in Penang.

What do you find interesting in Penang?
Penang to me is home. It's a place with a lot of character and a relaxed, carpe diem lifestyle, that i love. I love the diverse culture in Penang. Penang has a lot of personality and is a colorful and inspiring place. I really wish that there would be more exposure for all the fantastic young artists in Penang. I think Horsed is exactly what Penang's art scene needs.

What do you name your arts as? What type of art do you love the most?
I would categorize my photography under psychedelic. I do mostly portraits with layerings of pictures of nebulas. My paintings are symbolism. Most of them are about life and death.

Is there anyone who encourages you to do arts? or you just found it as a hobby yourself?
Almost everyone in my family is an artist, but in a different sense than me: They all play instruments. My aunt is a famous pianist in Slovenia. They are all very supportive of me and have never questioned me wanting to do art for a living. this is because they can relate to me. I'm very blessed to have such a supportive family.

Such a beauty! Both her photography and visual artwork are really impressive! We really need more young and talented people like this in Penang! You can also check her work/portfolio out in her Facebook page, Flickr page or DeviantArt.
